One day in the studio: Explosion

Water and pigment in small cups, a shiny paper waiting for an expression. There is a idea, but what force does the color have today? First some hesitant, airy layers. Soon the pigment is oozing around on the paper. Driven by the water, the paints almost take liberties, some tranquil, others more explosive. A stage scene occurs, with the pigments, the paper, and the brush as the actors. Somewhere in there, a picture begins to take form that appeals to me on that particular day. Seconds later, and everything seems to have disappeared again. Another try, again ....

Studio

The studio is large and bright, with plenty of space to create in. I often paint according to a method called “alla prima”: painting done in one session while the paint is still wet. This means that the groundwork is especially important. Drawings and pictures from days by the shore form the base of the process.
